Quiet and Peaceful, the Fraal (pronounced frahl) appear calm and composed in even the most chaotic situations. There are humans present." - Lirist Jil Oric, 2124 (Some are considered borderline sentient.) A total of 50 sentient species in all have been contacted, with each being rated at various levels of development. This began with first contact with the Fraal in the Sol system, followed by the brutish Weren, cyber-oriented Mechalus, reptilian T'sa, and gliding Sesheyan. In the course of the past five centuries, humans have contacted several alien races. These are : Austrin-Ontis Unlimited, Borealis Republic, Hatire Community, Insight, Nariac Domain, Orion League, Orlamu Theocracy, Rigunmor Star Consortium, Thuldan Empire, Union of Sol, and Voidcorp. This agreement has held the peace, barely, for the last three decades.Īt the beginning of the twenty-sixth century, Humanity's political and social structure is divided into Stellar Nations (once countries), rich corporations or federations, most trying to collect their former colonies. The war ended in 2472 with the signing of the Galactic Concord. The war continued for over 100 years, leaving worlds devastated and nations and alliances in difficult financial straits. This led to a pullback of the humans from their maximum expansion, isolating many colonies. ![]() Tensions between the colonies led to the first galactic war in 2299, finally ending in 2312 with the emergence of 26 stellar nations.Ī second, even nastier war began in 2346, sparked by a rebellion of mutants. New powers emerged, forming the Terran Empire in 2250. A period of stellar colonization of habitable worlds ensues, led by six wealthy power blocs. Mankind has gained access to faster-than-light technology called the stardrive, a merger of technology between humans and the alien Fraal. ![]() In brief, quoted from elsewhere:įuture HistoryThis campaign is set in the 26th century, starting in the year 2501. The published adventures take place in the STAR*DRIVE campaign setting originally published by TSR: a future filled with action, adventure and commerce. ![]() In the brief two year run it spawned two unique settings, Star*Drive and Dark*Matter, as well as conversions for Gamma World and StarCraft, a score of supplements and adventure modules and the creations of these, from the alien species to the postulated technology, are still present and felt in d20 future and d20 modern today.Īnd it gathered a small but ardent fanbase that continue to play it to this day. The time of the game has long since passed - a casualty of the WotC merger and the refocusing on the resultant d20 gaming line the game was quietly phased out in 2000, merely two years after it's initial release. It was a new mechanic, a departure from what they'd done before and it illustrated a new design aesthetic that would find it's way into their later products. Once, many many years ago, back when TSR was still TSR and before d20 had become the flagship of the gaming industry, TSR attempted to replicate the success of their fantasy gaming line with a multi-setting science fiction ruleset with which they could emulate everything from near future/present day hard-SF to far future space opera. From the outset I expect to be the captain of this particular ship. Me, myself and I, though if someone wishes to co GM I will consider the possibility. Inside the docking collar opens to a gust of stagnant and humid air, the crew nowhere to be seen. Outside is a volcanic hell of sulfuric toxins and phosphorus fumes where the only liquid pooling amidst the crags is molten lead. The small crew of a itinerant freighter is forced to make planetfall at a remote mining station on an inhospitable world to repair damage to their FTL drive. From a thousand planets and a thousand species, every starfall is the same, and each is unique. It is the lifeblood of the stars, the link between the scattered specks of humanity, and it is the terror of the unknown. It is a burst of impossible color that ends in an event horizon and an enduring darkness. Starfall - the moment where reality bends into the black and the ship slips between the worlds. ![]()
